My aim is to provide you with practical information, tips, and advice on how to look after your Spaniel, from his early puppy days through to adulthood and his senior years, to ensure your dog grows up happy and healthy!
You may be new to puppy care, you may have owned Cockers for years and like to refresh your memory, or you may simply want to enjoy looking at lots of beautiful cocker spaniel pictures - whichever it is, you're certain to find what you're looking for here!
Cocker Spaniel Puppy Care
You may soon be bringing home a new puppy, in which case you'll probably have lots of questions that need answers!
There's rather a lot to learn about owning a puppy, but don't worry, I'll help you to establish a solid routine for him in my new puppy care guide.
All aspects of cocker puppy ownership are covered, including essential help with buying puppies, as well as tips and advice on choosing a puppy.
There's also lots of helpful suggestions for choosing puppy names.
If you've not yet chosen a name for your puppy, why not take a look at our database of puppy names and see if you can find that special name for your little puppy?
And later, when he's teething, you'll find helpful guidance on how to stop your puppy biting and chewing everything he comes into contact with!
I'll not only help you to take good care of your Cocker puppy, I'll also offer practical help and advice on caring for your Cocker right through to his older years!
Cocker Spaniel Puppy Training And Obedience
You love your puppy and you want him to be a well-mannered, obedient little bundle, (Ha!) but it's not always that simple, is it?
Why not check out the puppy training tips page before you begin - it will save you lots of time and heartache!
We also offer helpful advice on potty training a puppy to help housetrain your puppy quickly and without (too many) little accidents - toilet training puppies and dogs has never been easier!
If you've chosen to house your puppy in a crate (which I recommend), you'll find my guide on crate training your puppy very useful.
Training a puppy can be frustrating, especially when it's obvious he doesn't understand what you want from him!
I strongly recommend you read my puppy training tips before you begin your puppy obedience training. These tips will help you to set the scene and get the best out of your training.
Puppy training can be very rewarding, especially when you get it right, and it can be fun too! However, if training gets too intense, lighten up a little and try teaching your pet how to play a few puppy games.
You'll find lots more great tips and advice to help make training your Cocker Spaniel a whole lot easier!
Cocker Spaniel Puppies And Socialization
Socialization is an extremely important part of your puppy's training.
Put simply, it is the process of gradually exposing your puppy to everyday sounds, sights, and experiences until he becomes totally familar with them.
If your puppy isn't properly socialized he may grow up to be a very nervous and timid dog - jumping at the slightest noise or sudden movement, shying away from human contact - in fact, a total scaredy-dog!
In addition, an under-socialized puppy will be an unhappy puppy and his fear and anxiety may cause him to behave badly, perhaps even aggressively, so it's important to get it right!
Socializing your puppy is a vital part of your puppy's upbringing, especially if he's to develop into a well-behaved, happy, adult Cocker Spaniel!
Grooming Cockers To Look Their Best!
Naturally, you'll want your dog's coat to look clean, healthy, and in great condition (you'll want him to smell nice too!) which means you'll need to look after his coat very carefully with regular dog grooming.
Professional dog groomers can sometimes be expensive, but you could make considerable savings if you learned how to groom your dog yourself.
You'll find lots of useful tips and advice on all aspects of grooming Cocker Spaniels, as well as a guide to which dog grooming tools are essential to keep your Cocker's coat looking healthy and in tip-top condition.
Cocker Health Care
Cocker Spaniel health is very important to us all and as loving owners we do our level best to ensure our Cockers remain healthy at all times.
Cocker Spaniel ears may be beautiful, but they're prone to stubborn ear infections.
It's important to keep your Cocker's ears scrupulously clean as ear infections can cause considerable discomfort and, in the extreme, deafness.
Your dog's ears, and his hearing, are precious - don't you owe it to your Cocker to learn more about cleaning your dogs ears to help keep them healthy and free from infection?
Dog fleas and dog ticks - just hearing those words makes me shudder and want to scratch! Fleas can make your and your dog's life a total misery and if you find dog fleas in your carpets and furnishings, as well as on your pet, you'll need to act fast because Getting rid of dog fleas in the house isn't just about killing fleas on dogs, it's also about active, ongoing, flea control and prevention around your home.
To help boost your Cocker's health, and give him the very best start in life, the Cocker Spaniel diet you feed your pet should be wholesome and fully nutritious.
Feeding your puppy the best healthy dog food you can afford, and giving him plenty of exercise and loving, will go a long way to ensuring he lives a long, happy and healthy life.
