Slowing Down

Thanks to all of you with your wonderful comments on my best friend, Molly. She will be 14 years old in March 2014.

I find myself wondering how much longer...which brings me to tears quite often.

I've read some of the postings of those who have lost their pets, my eyes fill up and my heart breaks for them. Molly is slowing down and her eyes are getting that "hazy" look. She thinks she hears things when there is complete silence.

Other times I call to her and she either doesn't hear me or she looks in the complete wrong direction for my voice.

Although the vet says her heart sounds fine, I see a difference in her. She sleeps way too much, even though I try to keep her active and she used to "fly" up the stairs, now she starts out okay but the last 3 to 4 steps, I can tell it's too much for her.

My heart is beginning to break.

Any dog owner knows that once they start to decline...unlike people, it happens quickly.

I hope I'm "jumping the gun" here. I could never adjust to her absence when the time comes.

Thanks for letting me vent. You've all been so kind.

Thanks so much for the nice comments for Molly. Yes she is really as innocent as she looks. This dog is so loving, loyal and true, it still amazes me (she'll be 12 in March of this year.)

Sometimes I look at her and shake my head asking, "how on earth did I get so lucky?"

I love her a ridiculous amount.

I'm sure I've just seen you on another page, Molly! You are such a lovely looking cocker.

I used to have a cocker spaniel just as beautiful as you, although she was a different colour - she was an orange roan. That was many years ago now, and I'm about to get another (after all this time too!).

This website has helped me to brush up on my puppy skills - getting a new puppy is a bit scary, even if you've owned dogs before.

Linda, I've really enjoyed looking at your photos of Molly, thank you for posting them.

You'd just think that Molly has been caught in the act and is saying, 'Who Me'? I didn't do it - a bad girl did it and then she ran away! LOL

I think her eyebrows give her a permanent expression of surprise and/or innocence.

She is one of the most gorgeous cockers I've seen in a long time.
