Why Has My Cocker Spaniel Suddenly Become Aggressive?

by Srijit Nair

We have a year old brown cocker spaniel named Zorro. A month ago, we had him castrated as per my vet's recommendation.

Now, all of a sudden, he has become a bit aggressive and has already bit my mom and wife without any pre-warning.

I had heard that they give you warnings in the form of grunts or growls before actually biting. In these cases, there was no warning of any sort - he seemed to bite for no reason.

Can anyone explain what could be happening please?

Biting without first giving a warning growl is the most dangerous form of undesired behaviour from a dog. I would take him to the vet and ask the vet to check him out. Explain the circumstances in which he bit you and your wife. Don't leave out any detail, even if it's minute and you don't think it relevant. Your vet might.

He may be able to help you, but if he can't he'll certainly know a good trainer who can help.

This really isn't something you should try to sort on your own. I don't mean to offend, but you should leave it to the professionals.

I do know however, that if you ignore it, it won't go away, it will only get worse.

Good luck, I hope you manage to get it sorted out, and quickly.
