Why is my cocker spaniel so lazy nowadays?

by Diya
(Bangalor, India)

My cocker spaniel is about ten months old now. He is very playful but he refuses to go for his morning walks, which he's always enjoyed. We literally have to push him out the door, but he still won't go.

He is fine when I walk him but when I am at school he won't step out of the house.

He also sleeps almost all the time. Why won't he run about the house anymore?

Reply From Pauline (Webowner)

Hi Diya,

I am assuming that your dog is otherwise fit and healthy and that there's no underlying illness. However, if you believe he may have a health problem, I would recommend you take him to see his vet - just to be on the safe side.

Have you changed his diet recently? Is your dog being fed a nutritious, well-balanced cocker spaniel diet. This will not only keep him healthy, but will also keep his energy levels up too.

Make It Fun!
by: Toya

Has your puppy got lots of toys? If so, he may have become bored with them.

Try buying a couple of new exciting toys for him and keep them as yours - only bring them out occasionally so that they stay exciting to him.

You could also try teaching your dog a few tricks to see if that gets him going.

So long as he's fit and healthy, I wouldn't worry.
