Tanner

My adopted 18 month old cocker spaniel keeps getting scaley spots. They are small and raised when you brush him the skin flakes off and then the area is slightly pink.

The hair in those areas gets sparce.

The vet said it was a dermatitis (duh) and to put neosporin on it.

The areas do not look infected just a little irritated.

What is the cause? We have had no ear problems. A little eye drainage when he wakes up from time to time. I give him lamb and rice or chicken and barley food, without soy, corn, or wheat. I have been supplementing with omega 3 and 6 for about 1 week.

It takes longer than one week to see any benefits from omega oils - it will take at least 6 - 8 weeks.

I'd follow the advice of your vet and persevere with the Neosporin.
