Having bred a litter of show cockers myself, I think that the previous comment was untrue and misleading. My advice having owned both field cockers and show cockers, is this:
If you are able to give a dog a lot of exercise, then opt for a field cocker, show cockers obviously still need exercising, but are much calmer and docile than field cockers.
Show cockers have different coats than field cockers, which require more grooming, so this also has to be considered.
Both types of cockers are lovely dogs, just make sure you find a good breeder and always request to meet the mother.

Avoid Show Breeder Puppies by: Anonymous
People who raise dogs to show often have some nice looking dogs but those are the ones they keep for themselves. A good question to ask yourself is this. "If a show kennel raises a litter of 8 puppies (they often resort to inbreeding which has caused the majority of the health disorders in purebred dogs), and they think they have one, maybe two, that are fit to keep and potentially show...who or where do you think the remaining unfit puppies go?...
That's right you get to buy them and have a empty wallet and a broken heart.
