Puppy On Heat?

by Kathy
(Victoria)

We have just purchased a 10 month old female cocker spaniel cross. I have found the odd small blood spot on my cream carpet. I have just arrived home and she's so excited to see me and I notice there are about 4-5 drops of blood on tiles. I checked with my daughter who got her for me and she assured me the the dog is not due until next August 2015 (I am assuming that she probably had her first period in August this year).

She's not yet spayed and has been for two walks today and all this week since we have got her.

Is she having a second period at 10 months old and should we be keeping her out of the leash free area?

Thanking you in anticipation.

I would err on the side of caution and keep her in your sight at all times. You can't be too careful. If you're concerned, why not have a chat with your vet just to make certain?
