Puppy Food

by Cierra
(San Diego, CA)

I am a 1 day owner to a Cocker Spaniel and we have yet to name him. He is right under 4 months and has TONS of energy!

His previous owner had him eating Purina Puppy Chow, but my husband and I have read that it has lots of fillers and isn't really a good brand to have him on.

Do you have any suggestions on what I should have him eating? We both thought soft food because he's still a puppy but we have no idea!

Hi Cierra,

Congratulations on getting your new puppy!

If you haven't yet decided on his name, why not check out our Puppy Names pages - I'm sure you'll find just what you're looking for there.

As for his food, well, we fed Max on dry food (kibble) from day one and he loves it. However, we do occasionally save him a few tit-bits and the odd chicken leg - yes, we do indulge him a little!

I would recommend you read my page on feeding a puppy. It's got lots of information about what and how to feed your puppy, what to do if you want to change his food, and lots of helpful tips and advice.

Most good pet food stores sell good quality puppy food, just make sure you check the ingredients lablels to ensure it's not full of fillers.

Good luck and have fun with your puppy!

PS: Why not send us a photo and let us know how he gets on? You can do this here.

I'd recommend dry food over wet food any day! It's cleaner, doesn't smell, is easy to prepare and it can work out cheaper too!

Plus, all of your puppy's nutritional needs are taken care of in each meal.
