  6. Bake in the oven for between 30 - 45 minutes; keep an eye on them otherwise they may go too brown.

Peanut Butter And Honey Dog Biscuit Treats

Ingredients:

Top Tip: Whenever I have to give Max his worming tablets he's always spit them out until I discovered that if I pushed the tablets into a small teaspoon of peanut butter they disappeared quickly and without trace. Works every time!

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of runny honey
  • 1 teaspoon of peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup of vegetable shortening or butter
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/4 cup of rolled oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F/180 degrees C/Gas Mark 4.

  2. Warm the honey and peanut butter until runny.

  3. Mix all the ingredients together.

  4. Take one teaspoonful of the mixture and let it drop onto a non-stick backing sheet; continue until you've used all the dough.

  5. Place in the oven and bake 8 to 10 minutes.

This recipe makes about 40 peanut butter dog biscuits depending upon how much you spoon out each time.

Healthy Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Bites

Ingredients:

Mouth-watering peanut butter dog biscuits - don't they look delicious?
  • 1-1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1-1/2 cups of white flour
  • 1/2 cup of natural smooth peanut butter (without added salt and sugar)
  • 1 of cup water
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable or olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F/180 degrees C/Gas Mark 4.

  2. Mix the peanut butter, oil and water to a smooth paste.  If you're mixing by hand, it may help to mix the oil to the peanut butter first before slowly adding the water. (Take care because this part can get really messy if you're not careful.)

  3. Add both flours, a little at a time, to make a stiff dough and then knead.

  4. Shape into a ball and roll flat to about 1/4 inch thickness (0.625 cm).

  5. Using a biscuit cutter, cut out your biscuit shapes (if you prefer, you can buy dog biscuit shaped cutters on-line).

  6. Place the dog biscuits onto an un-greased baking tray and bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

This peanut butter dog biscuit recipe should make around 25 biscuits depending upon size and shape of cutter.

The above home-made dog treats are so tasty they won't be around for very long! However, while they are around, they'll keep in an airtight container for around 5-8 days.

They'll keep even longer (about 2 weeks) if kept in the refrigerator and can even be frozen.

Tips for Baking Peanut Butter Dog Biscuit Recipes

  • You can buy novelty biscuit cutters in many different shapes and sizes (just like the fish shaped biscuits in the picture above).

  • However, if you're on a budget, you can easily cut the dough into various shapes using a sharp knife. Your dog will love them just the same!

  • The number of biscuits each recipe makes depends upon how thick you roll your cookie dough and the size and shape of your cutter.

  • Aside from being quick and easy to make, these dog treats will keep for a couple of weeks in an air-tight plastic tub or they can be frozen for up to three months.

  • One word of caution. I recommend you use natural or organic peanut butter, without excess salt or sugar as it's much healthier for your dog.
