How Much Should An 8-Week Old Golden Cocker Spaniel Weigh?

by Steph
(Jo'burg, South Africa)

I got a cocker spaniel pup 2 weeks ago - the owner said she was 6 weeks old. She was quite large, and so I am not sure whether she actually is 8 weeks at this stage or older.

She weighed in at about 2,5 kg on the day we got her - 6 weeks old, ostensibly.

Is this correct?

Reply from Pauline (Web Owner)

It sounds about right for a 6-week old puppy but if you're worried, why not check it out with your vet or veterinary nurse?

I agree, your vet will be able to determine just how old your puppy is and will advise you how much it should weigh.

All puppies are different and grow at different rates. If your puppy looks and behaves like a healthy puppy, I wouldn't worry. If you are really worried, why not take her to your vet who should be able to tell you how old she is and check her over.
