Dog Breeds: The Australian Shepherd
The Australian Shepherd is a magnificent beast!
The breed has two distinct lines; working dogs and show dogs. The working dog has a shorter coat, can be slightly slimmer and smaller.
Originally bred as working stock, they have strong shepherding instincts, quick reflexes, and are very willing and tireless workers.
They need to be kept busy and enjoy vigorous playtime with toys such as the frisbee or a throw-ball.
The Australian Shepherd is an intelligent dog. They can be easily trained and are well-known for their obedience.
They make loyal and loving companions and pets.
At Australian Shepherd Lovers, you'll find lots of information and resources about this wonderful breed, such as their history, health, genetics, temperament, training and agility.
The site also includes directories of rescue organizations and lists Australian Shepherd breeders.
Dog Breeds: Toy Australian Shepherd
The Toy Australian Shepherd (also known as the Miniature Australian Shepherd) was developed by breeding the smallest of the Australian Shepherd breed described above, and stands at around 12" high.
Their coats come in many wonderful colours; they can be seen in blue or red merle, red, black, and can have white or a copperish coloured trim.
The eye colouring is also varied, and can be brown, blue, hazel/green, amber or marbled - as you can see from this photograph, their eyes can be quite startling!
They're very intelligent and active little dogs.
Obedience training is very important as, like many breeds, the toy australian shepherd needs plenty of mental and physical exercise, otherwise it may become destructive.
Although the Toy Australian Shepherd may initially hold back from strangers, they are quite sociable and love to be part of the family. As such, they make great family pets - preferably where the children are a little older as they may be too 'energetic' around toddlers.
Learn more about this wonderful breed, visit Little Debs Toy Aussie where you'll find helpful information on how to care for your Toy Aussie puppy, their standard, temperament, food ratings, and much more - they may even have a puppy for sale!
Dog Breeds: The Bichon Frise
The words Bichon Frise are French for 'curly lap dog', and that's exactly what they like to do; they love curling up on you lap for a cuddle.
Their coats are white, (sometimes with cream or apricot markings) fairly soft and curly, and best of all - they don't shed! Great for allergy sufferers!
They need to be brushed regularly to keep their coat in good condition and free from mats.
Bichon Frises love to be with children and families - they thrive on companionship and don't like being left alone.
The Bichon Frise should be trained as early as possible to ensure the ground rules for basic good behaviour have been set.
Ensure all training is consistent and reinforced regularly to ensure good behaviour.

They're active and energetic dogs and need lots of exercise.
Boxers are very good with children but may be distrustful or wary of strangers.

Dog Breeds: The English Bulldog
The English Bulldog (also known as the British Bulldog) is a fairly short and stocky breed - its legs set at each 'corner' of its body.
It has a wide head and shoulders, with dense folds of skin around the neck and on top of the skull and brow.
They have a short pug muzzle with large nostrils, very dark and widely spaced eyes and ears which are small and thin.
Their lower jaw is quite undershot and they have a short and curled tail.
English Bulldogs make good guard dogs as they are very brave and can sometime look a little frightening.
However, despite their sometimes ferocious look, this breed is very gentle, and good with children - they thrive on lots of strokes and attention.
Like most breeds, the English Bulldog benefits from being trained from a puppy to ensure you maintain your status as pack leader.

Surprisingly, the long-haired Chihuahua doesn't need much trimming or grooming, and tends to shed less than the short-haired breed.
Unless they're properly trained, Chihuahuas can be very 'yappy' dogs and generally don't make good pets for families with young children.
Don't be fooled by their size (or lack of it!) they are quite territorial dogs and are not afraid to defending their master or their territory.
Chihuahuas tend to respond better to having one owner - they're more of a 'one-man dog' - but, if they're trained and handled properly, they make a wonderful, loving and loyal companion.
