At what age should I have my male cocker spaniel puppy doctored?

What age should I have my male cocker spaniel puppy doctored?

Reply from Pauline (Web Owner)

Your vet should be the one to advise you on the best time to have your cocker spaniel puppy castrated.

All dogs are different, some develop quicker than others, but as a general guide, 6 months and over is about the norm for spaying or castrating dogs.

However, as I mentioned earlier, your vet is the only person qualified to advise you.

Doctored Cocker Spaniel
by: Anonymous

The best time to get your dog castrated is usually around 6 month because by that time they've matured enough for their scrotum to have dropped into position.

However, your vet is the best person to advise you of this. He'll arrange everything for you and will take care of your pet well - for a fee, of course!

They're usually in surgery only for a little while and kept in overnight. He'll probably have to wear one of those lampshades (they look quite cute) to stop him nibbling at the stitches. He may need to wear it for a week or so, until the stitches are removed.

I hope your dog doesn't find it too much of an ordeal! :)

Castration
by: Gill

Hi! I went to get my boy done at 6 months but he wasn't mature enough!! The vet advised to wait until he was cocking his leg to pee, which didn't do him any harm. He got done at about 10 months.

Castration

Your vet is the best person to advise you on this, however, I believe puppies can't be neutered or spayed until they're at least 6 months old.

Best speak to your vet.

Good luck!
